Host a College Student!

Short-Term Study Program (1 - 4 weeks)
The Short-Term Study Program is a good option if your family members are away from home during the day or if there are no teens at home. The students are 18-25 years old and stay for 1 to 4 weeks, usually in the spring and summer. They have English classes or activities each weekday and look forward to sharing evenings and weekends with their host family.

Most of the Short-Term Study programs take place in the greater Portland area, with a few located in other cities in Oregon andWashington. Since the students use public transportation to commute to classes, it is helpful if host families live within walking distance of a bus or train stop.  Families receive a small stipend to help cover hosting expenses.

Most students arrive at the beginning of one of the four college terms, Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall.  Families agree to host a student for approximately three months, or one college term. Many students choose to extend their homestay for additional terms, of course, with the permission of their hosts.  Some families have hosted the same student for a year or more!

We ask families to provide college students with their own room, meals (self-serve breakfast & lunch, dinner in the evening with host), internet access, and regular contact with the family and opportunities to speak English.

College students value time spent with their host family, and they also expect to have the freedom to come and go independently and to plan extended trips during weekends and vacations if they choose. Students also sign “Andeo’s Homestay Program Agreement,” (click here to read) which outlines their responsibilities when living with a host family.  Families receive a monthly stipend to help cover hosting expenses.
